The Reiki Session
Reiki sessions are conducted in a quiet room playing soft music, with the patient fully-clothed lying on a massage table and practitioner placing her palms gently in various positions on or just above the patient’s body. Normally, the practitioner will speak with patient before a session to find out what his/her issues and expectations are.
A complete session can last from 60 to 90 minutes. For stress reduction, one or two sessions may be satisfactory. For chronic conditions, long-term treatment is sometimes recommended.
“Touch is our first experience when we emerge from the womb. That sensation is very important to all of us, because of its association with birth, love and loved ones. The sense of touch is powerful, permitting the body to connect, relax and heal itself.”
Angela started to feel depressed on a regular basis after the birth of her first child. A traumatic labour coupled with intense sleep-deprivation and a lack of family support contributed to heightened anxiety. However, she refused to start using the anti-depressants prescribed by her psychologist, instead deciding to seek natural alternatives to help her cope better with motherhood and daily life.
Subsequently, Angela experienced Reiki for the first time and, after just a few sessions, profound results were evident. She was able to get to sleep more easily at night. Her mind had quietened and she could direct her thoughts more effectively, focusing on the moment. Furthermore, she developed a strong urge to understand the relationship between the physical, emotional, and spiritual states of well-being.
This journey of self-healing and self-discovery had so inspired her that Angela felt compelled to further her studies in order that she might help others nourish their own lives. She undertook Reiki Level 1, Level 2 & Level 3A.
